Terms of Use
Last updated: 06. September 2026
1. Acceptance of these terms
By downloading, installing, or using Duckwork ("the app"), operated by Andreas Zettl ("we", "us"), you agree to these Terms of Use. If you don't agree, don't use the app.
2. What Duckwork is
Duckwork is a macOS menu bar application that captures speech locally and, at your request, sends transcript excerpts to a model backend and optional MCP tool servers that you configure yourself. We do not run the model backends or MCP servers you connect to, and do not have access to your sessions.
3. License
We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to install and use Duckwork on devices you own or control, for as long as you comply with these terms.
4. Your own accounts and API keys
To use Echo or Full Assistant mode with a cloud provider, you must supply your own API key or credentials for that provider (for example, Anthropic or an OpenAI-compatible service). You are solely responsible for:
- complying with that provider's own terms of service and usage policies,
- any costs billed by that provider for your usage,
- keeping your API keys and MCP server credentials secure.
Duckwork stores these credentials locally in the macOS Keychain and does not transmit them to us.
5. Acceptable use
You agree not to use Duckwork to:
- violate any applicable law or the terms of any connected third-party service,
- attempt to gain unauthorized access to any MCP server, model backend, or other system through the app,
- use the app to generate content that is illegal, or that infringes the rights of others.
6. Third-party services
Duckwork lets you connect third-party services (model providers, MCP servers, and macOS's own speech and voice frameworks). We don't control these services, don't guarantee their availability or accuracy, and aren't responsible for how they handle data you send them. Your use of each is governed by that service's own terms.
7. No warranty
Duckwork is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose. We don't guarantee that transcription, echoes, or assistant responses will be accurate, complete, or uninterrupted.
8. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the app, including costs incurred with third-party model providers or actions taken by tools called through MCP servers you configured.
9. Changes to the app or these terms
We may update Duckwork or these terms over time. Continued use of the app after an update to these terms constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
10. Termination
You can stop using Duckwork at any time by uninstalling it. We may discontinue the app or any feature at our discretion.
11. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Germany, without regard to conflict-of-law principles, unless mandatory consumer protection laws in your country of residence provide otherwise.
12. Contact
Questions about these terms can be sent to the contact address listed in the Imprint.
